Your guide to the London Congestion Charges

How does it work?

When you drive into the area highlighted in the map above, you are entering the London Congestion Charge Zone which is shown by this symbol:

In this zone, the £8 Congestion Charge applies from 7am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday excluding Public Holidays.

Hire vehicles are not exempt from the charge and it is the responsibility of the renter, not KB Self-Drive to register the vehicle and pay the charge for each day they travel within this zone.

How KB Self-Drive customers can pay the Congestion Charge

Charges can be paid daily by cash, cheque and credit or debit card at a number of different retail outlets including post offices, petrol stations and nominated pay points. If you find it hard to use any of the above, you can call 0845 900 1234 and register your payment. Calls are charged at a local rate and you will need to know the following:

• Vehicle registration number
• The date you want to pay the charge for
• Details of how you intend to pay (eg, credit card number)

When to pay

The £8 Congestion Charge can be paid at any time up to 10pm on the day of your journey. However, if the charge is paid between 10pm and midnight on the day of your journey, the cost will rise to £10.

Penalties for late payment

If the charge is not paid before midnight, an £80 penalty charge will be passed on to the individual renting the vehicle. The charge will be reduced to £40 if the penalty is paid within 14 days. However, it will increase to £120 for failure to pay after 28 days.

These charges will be passed on to the individual renting the vehicle at the time the penalty was incurred. KB Self-Drive will not accept liability for these charges. Failure to pay the penalty will result in KB Self-Drive incurring administration costs. This means that a cost of £25 will be charged to the renter along with the original penalty.

International residents visiting the UK will not be exempt from paying the charge.
