Are there times when you need a larger van to get the job done?
Yes, choose KB with large vans to suit all purposes.
Hiring Guide
Obviously, you can use a KB Self-Drive low cost van for almost any reason you like, as long as it's legal! But whatever the job, and however far you're going, there are a few simple things you need to bear in mind when loading, unloading and driving your self-drive van.
Driving a van for the first time might be a bit nerve-racking, if you haven't driven anything this large before. But it's not difficult. Here are a few simple tips to help you:
- To get used to the van, take a test drive on a car park or in an area with little traffic
- Make sure that your exterior mirrors are adjusted properly
- Some B-roads and vehicle access points often have restricted height and width. Don't forget, your hire van has extra height and might need additional room
- Vans have a longer stopping distance, so take care and don't follow the vehicle in front too closely
- Take extra care when reversing and backing into a parking space. If possible, get another person to guide you
- Vans have blind spots, so make sure you use your exterior mirrors when turning left, right, cornering or manoeuvring into tight spaces
- Take extra care when changing lanes. Watch out for motorcyclists and always think about blind spots
Loading and unloading your van
Here are a few simple rules to help you make the most of the storage space inside your self-drive van, and make sure that nothing gets damaged in transit.
- Old sheets or blankets are ideal for protecting items from damage and scratching
- If you're carrying furniture, make sure it doesn't slide around or fall over. To stop drawers sliding out, tie string around the chest of drawers or stack heavy boxes in front of them
- Pack the heaviest boxes at the bottom. To prevent damage and instability you need to ensure that these boxes will stand the weight of those above them
- Boxes at the top should be tied or wedged into place, then they won't go flying at the first corner you drive around. Tape all boxes closed wherever possible
- If your van is not full all the way to the back doors, tie some rope or straps across the van. This will stop the load sliding backwards or toppling over as soon as you accelerate or go up a hill
