KB-Tips when driving a hire van
Driving a van for the first time may be a bit nerve-racking, but it's not difficult.
You may find the following tips helpful:
Take a test drive on a car park or in an area with little traffic to get used to the van.
Make sure that your exterior mirrors are adjusted properly.
Some B-roads and vehicle access points often have restricted height and width requirements. Bear in mind your hire van has extra height and may require extra room.
Vans have a longer stopping distance, so take care and do not follow the vehicle in front too closely.
Take extra care when reversing and backing into a parking space. If possible, get another person to guide you.
Vans have blind spots, ensure you use your exterior mirrors when turning left, right, cornering or manoeuvring into tight spaces.
Take extra care when changing lanes. Watch out for motor cyclists and always think about blind spots.
